Hello Newman Lake Community,

The September 29th algae sampling results from Diana Bay came back positive for Microcystins toxins (0.2 ug/L). However, the concentration was well below the Washington State Department of Health recreational guidelines level of 8 ug/L.

Although this test came back below the recreational guidelines, it does not confirm that all algae blooms on Newman Lake are safe. Please continue to exercise caution; swimming in/near algae blooms, and drinking this water, is to be avoided.

Please continue to send in photos and locations of observed blooms, so that District Staff can continue to coordinate sampling/testing. And, please contact Spokane County and/or Washington State Department of Health for specific details relative to use, exposure, and other related questions.
