FEBRUARY 5th HONEYMOON BAY MEETING SUMMARY

Hello Newman Lake residents,

Thank you for participating in our Feb. 5 meeting outlining the Newman Lake wastewater pilot project.

We’re grateful for your time and commitment to helping explore this cost-effective, state-of-the-art treatment alternative over the course of the next year.

To summarize the plan:

  • Through financial and technical assistance, the Department of Ecology is collaborating with Spokane Conservation District, Spokane County and property owners to find innovative ways to better the health of Newman Lake by finding alternatives to failing septic systems.
  • In April, Spokane Conservation District will oversee installation of small scale enhanced treatment upgrades at up to three sites in Honeymoon Bay.
  • From May until next winter, we’ll monitor the wastewater discharged from these treatment systems. If discharged water meets or is cleaner than groundwater standards, the new technology will stay in place and serve as a model for other parcels.
